Hades rises from the foot of her bed at the mention of his master's name. Emma doesn't hear it, as she's found that her hearing and her eyesight is still recovering. The room spins when she moves to stand, and her Lycanroc pushes his head beneath her arm, teeth grazing skin as he moves to steady her.[break][break]

She snaps, pulling her arm away sharply. Hades can smell her fear, and his own stress manifests into misdirected anger. When the nurse leads Flynn to their room he snarls, warning both of the intruding humans from coming closer. [break][break] As a method of habit, Flynn didn't often spend time wondering about his other colleagues at the organization that was Team Rocket. He had only signed a death sentence because to do anything else would have meant dying by another sword. In other words, he'd had no choice.

[break][break] Unlike others, who's greed spilled from them endlessly, who's claws of ambition and desire drove them to constantly sidle up to others in order to climb the ranks that was the organization, Flynn was not concerned with that. No, the man was only concerned with living — and he only needed to do the bare minimum for that.

[break][break] Yet, it was impossible to tear his gaze away as he witnessed Emma Wolfe at the other end of the room, a mangled form of her former self. He didn't know her — but he knew enough to know that this was not her.

[break][break] Flynn ignored all the red flags. He ignored all the signs that pointed to no.

[break][break] He crossed the threshold of the room and attempted to steer her upright, fingers grasping onto her shoulders with a strength that would have been difficult to slap away even if she'd wanted to. "You okay?" he asked, voice a low rumble.

But instead, when Flynn lurches forward to place his hand on her shoulder, Hades is not fast enough. For all of his growling, the wolf is silent now. Emma had cast him aside, so to speak, and so he was hesitant to intervene. [break][break]

And beneath Flynn's nearly iron grasp, she wilts.[break][break]

She is but a shell of herself, wrapped in bandages beneath thin clothing. They'd managed to dress her in actual clothing, but either it never fit, or it no longer did. The explosion on Mt. Pyre had nearly consumed her, and although her surface injuries have faded, her skin still burns where his fingers dig into her shoulders to hold her upright.[break][break]

"Get your hands off of me."[break][break]

Emma speaks evenly, through tight lips. She is tense, and she makes a weak attempt to pull away from him, one that humiliates her even further as a result of her own weakness. Hades growls from across the room, but doesn't come closer.[break][break]

The woman's eyes are still covered in bandages with the precaution to remove them in dimly lit areas for short periods at a time. They'd offered her darkened sunglasses meant especially for recovery but she had refused, too stubborn to wear them. She refused to believe that she was as broken as she was.[break][break]

She would recover.[break][break]

But even now it is apparent that she is out of it, unable to focus on the man's face. The room is shadowy and dark, it t spins with unfamiliar voices and smells and shapes. Her heart beats loudly in her chest.[break][break]

"I'm fine."[break][break]

[attr="class","textbox"] The snarl from her attack dog doesn't deter Flynn — after all, he had been around the nastier side of Blue's temper on more than one occasion. (She wasn't too huge a fan of being interrupted mid-nap.)

[break][break] The woman that is Emma Wolfe folds into his arms like a wilted flower, and despite her rebuttal, despite the furious light in her eyes that should tell any normal man to walk away, there is nothing she can do about him being there. She may say that she wants him to get away, but all other signs point to otherwise — her bandages, her fragility.

[break][break] In his arms, Emma Wolfe looks like a woman about to break.

[break][break] "Yeah, you look fine," Flynn says sarcastically, a light rebuttal. If she pushes though, he will relent. This may just be a mission detail for him, but Flynn is not so loyal to Rocket that he would hurt a woman for it. At least, not one of their own. He holds her for a moment, just until the sound of a creaking wheelchair that an orderly brings into the room — she, at least, seems fearful at the canine in the corner of the room, but even probably more scared of the person who ordered her to bring the chair.

[break][break] Sliding his hand down from her shoulders to her elbow, Flynn attempts to help her into the chair once it's locked. "As fine as you are," he says, "I'm supposed to bring you to your room. Will you let me?"

Fingers ball into fists against his chest in a poor attempt to hide the trembling. She attempts to hold him at arms length, but there is a very real part of her that hangs on because he is something warm and steady. But she doesn't know this man, doesn't trust him. She doesn't recognize anything about him and any attempts to remember or find familiarity bring her pain.[break][break]

The wake of his hand sliding from his shoulder to her elbow leaves behind goosebumps hidden beneath her thin sweater. She reacts violently by holding fast. He moves too quickly for her to realize that he hasn't left; he's still holding her by the elbows and pulling her toward him.[break][break]

"Is that a wheelchair?"[break][break]

Her voice shakes with rage and disbelief. Humiliation rises in her cheeks, hot. Emma holds fast to Flynn's forearms, nails biting with as much strength as she can muster.[break][break]

Rage and confusion boil beneath the surface, coming off of her in wave after wave of crashing emotion. Nothing smells right, nothing feels right, nothing is right and it frustrates her. [break][break]

His anger towards her is felt, loud and clear. It tingles on the way down his shoulders and into his arms, felt in the rise of static electricity between her hands on his forearms.
